Valentine’s Day is less than a week away, are you ready? Today, I want to share an easy DIY to create your own custom table runner. It’s a quick way to give your party table an instant upgrade! Take a peek at my Big Love Valentine’s Day Party to see how I used mine. Who wants a no sew project that they can pull out of their bag of party tricks? Let’s get started. 🙂
You will need:
Fabric {cut to your preferred length and width}
Ribbon {at least 1 inch wide}
Heat Bond Super Hem
Scissors
Iron
1} Purchase a pretty fabric from your local fabric store, or use some that you already have. I purchased 2 yards of this beautiful floral print because I wanted my table runner to be 6 feet long. I cut it length-wise to make it 11 inches wide.
2} Cut 2 strips of ribbon, and 2 strips of Heat Bond Super Hem the same length as your fabric.
3} Plug up your iron and allow it to get hot. As stated on the bonding instructions, do not use the steam setting. Place the fabric on an ironing board or a firm porous surface.
4} Place the Heat Bond Super Hem on the edge of your fabric. Leave a little space on the edge to give the bond space to expand when heated. We don’t want to get any bonding on your iron.
5} Put the ribbon on top of the heat bond. Start at one end and iron-on the ribbon with a firm slow motion, all the way down to the other end.
6} Repeat steps 4 and 5 on the opposite side of your fabric.
7} Now it’s time to cut 2 strips of Heat Bond Super Hem the same width of your fabric. Then cut 2 strips of ribbon slightly longer than the width of your fabric. I cut my ribbons 2 inches longer.
8} Put the heat bond near the edge and place the ribbon on top. Then iron using the same slow and firm motion that was previously used, from one end to the other.
9} Flip your fabric over so that it’s face down. Fold the excess ribbon over and iron it down, creating a crease.
10} Add a tiny slither of Heat Bond Super Hem just inside the crease.
11} Fold the ribbon over and use the iron to bond it to your fabric.
12} And you are DONE!!!
This is such an easy way to create a one-of-a-kind table runner for your next party. The possibilities are ENDLESS with the options of fabric and ribbon that are available. I used this lovely runner for my Valentine’s Day party, but it really can be used for any party, holiday or even home decor!
